Incorporating Key Procedures into the Transition Plan
Regularly perform these steps for a successful R-22 transition plan.
- Keep good records in order to baseline existing utilization of R-22.
- Aggressively repair any refrigerant leaks you discover.
- Recover, recycle, and reclaim R-22 refrigerant when possible.
Although recovery and reclaiming of R-22 has increased there is still estimated to be significant opportunities for recovery. In fact, the EPA has estimated that recovery of R-22 has historically been 5-7% of demand, while also estimating that recovery could provide 35% of demand.
There are alternative refrigerants that are reliable and cost effective substitutes for R-22.
